Straw hats by Jane are crafted from large, almost formless hoods or capelines - straw that is roughly shaped into a cone. The straw hood is steamed or moistened, shaped over a hat block and/or with my hands, and left to dry. The hat is then further cut, sewn, and shaped.

An inner headband of millinery ribbon is sewn into most of my straw hats. A daisy face is embroidered into the headband - my personal mark to signify the front. Designating the front is a traditional milliner's technique that I like to maintain today.

Last but not least the straw hat is embellished - with a hat band, flowers, feathers, medallions, et cetera.
