My History with Hats

It all began by being born bald and remaining bald until 1 year of age. Poor mother was horrified at baby Jane's lack of hair. That was the start of the great cover-up: cotton hats, knit hats, wool hats, straw hats. Oh, I got to wear them all!!! Even now, after half a century, hats just seem right; and despite a very full head of hair, hatless feels naked.

In kindergarten my greatest accomplishment was creating a wondrous Easter Hat, embellished freely with crepe paper flowers and streamers tied under my chin. Oh bliss!
As a young girl playing with a Betsy McCall doll, I found old cardboard salt cellars became perfect frames for pillbox hats. Betsy was as fashionable as Jackie O, in my hands.

Do you suppose nursing seemed a great career choice because in those days nurses still wore white hats?

Throughout my life there have always been work hats and fashion hats in my wardrobe. Here on the farm I have sun hats and baseball-style caps in a range of colors to match my work gear. Farm chic means coordinating cotton work gloves with hat and overalls and work shirt.

And town days, lovely town days, mean getting out the fashion hats, OH JOY!!! It is fun to gussy up and head to town.

Selling Creations

Selling is simply a way to share one's creativity, and a way to validate the work. The internet makes it possible for me to live the rural life and still reach out to others in creative ways. Whether you came just to look, for inspiration, or to buy well-crafted, one-of-a-kind items, it was my pleasure to have you visit. Thanks!!

A Tranquil Nook, my private aerie at Tranquility Pastures Farm.

I hide out in A Tranquil Nook, indulging my passions for sewing and for millinery. Every now and again I leave the nook to help out on the farm with chores and animals.
